Douglas Stuart McDaniel (Doug) is an author, urban futurist, and narrative architect operating at the intersection of design, technology, and strategic communications and systems thinking. For more than 30 years, he has worked at the highest levels of government and enterprise to shape the language, systems, and execution frameworks behind transformative efforts in civil infrastructure and urban innovation.

Doug’s portfolio spans the speculative frontiers of smart city development, including NEOM in Saudi Arabia, as well as work with the U.S. Department of Energy, NASA, the U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency, the U.K. and Australian Ministries of Defence, and countless projects for private-sector leaders such as Bechtel. From nuclear and space programs to smart mobility platforms, megaprojects, international airports, metro systems, LNG terminals, desalination plants, and cognitive cities, his impact spans North and South America, Europe, the MENA region, and Asia.

Doug is also the creator and host of Citizen One, an urbanNext original podcast series recently recognized by the Bloomberg-Harvard City Leadership Initiative.
